What’s My Workout Regimen?

Do you need a gym member ship to stay fit? NOPE!!! I used to be more of a gym rat, always incorporating a run then some kind of strength training. But after a while, I didn’t enjoy my gym workouts anymore. They felt more like a routine chore rather than something I truly loved! With that being said, I’ve changed my version of ‘working out’. As of right now, my ‘work out’ regimen consists of my daily runs (Probably more like a jog being that I’m not the worlds fastest runner😅), walking, and various types of yoga classes! Combining yoga/ running/long walks makes me feel like I don’t need to do much else, however, I am still a fan of RESISTANCE training! Ever since switching to yoga, essentially replacing that with my ‘strength training,’ my neck pain has vanished, my posture/flexibility has improved, and my risk of injuring myself running and daily activities has decreased! I now truly enjoy my morning runs/long walks as well as my yoga classes or personal yoga practice. These feel like enjoyable parts of my day that I almost don’t even like to refer to as “my workout”, due to the negative connotation of the word. Most people hear ‘workout’ and they think, “NO THANKS!” But what if instead, it was a daily routine part of your life, something you enjoy, that feels like a blessing, not a chore! If you’re feeling like your daily gym sessions are a CHORE, take a step back. I began doing the most natural forms of exercise, running/yoga, both of which only use MY OWN BODY! Not only is that convenient, but it’s very telling! The best forms of exercise (for me at least) are the ones in which you need no equipment except yourself! Of course the social aspect of the gym can be fun, which is why I still go from time to time, but did cave men have gyms to go to?! No! They stayed in shape by walking EVERYWHERE! However, I love my running and yoga, but still do enjoy incorporating a little bit of very low impact resistance training. What I mean by resistance training is very high rep, low weight (If any) exercises that you ‘feel the burn’ after a while! This is why in my room I have very light arm weights (literally 3 pounds), resistance bands, a yoga ball for core, a yoga mat for my own yoga practice or mat abs, and a foam roller! I keep this equipment easily accessible so if I’m bored in my room I just pick something up and do it really quick on my own time! These kinds of things are great because you can do them at your own leisure! No need to drive all the way to the gym! Go for a run, come back, do some yoga, maybe some resistance, and call it a day! Right now I’m loving the routine of running in the morning and doing yoga after dinner time to relax and unwind after a long day!  For some reason, the comfort of your own home might make the idea of ‘working out’ more enjoyable, therefore far more motivating! Of course any kind of physical activity requires discipline, motivation, and hard work, but ask yourself if you dread your form of a workout, or if it’s something that truly helps you mentally and physically! When you look at it as more of a pleasurable blessing rather than an obligation you want to check off your list, it suddenly becomes 1192737319 X more enjoyable! So I encourage you to find the form of exercise you thrive off of, what works best for YOU, and try to have the perception of nourishment rather than chore and obligation😊  I also love having at least 1 day during the week where I just rest and don’t do anything active other than maybe a light walk or light stretching! So again, it is important to find YOUR BALANCE because that is how YOU will succeed 🤗
